"... and I approve this message"

I was hoping this day wouldn't come for a few more months. But as I sat on the couch tonight watching "How I Met Your Mother" (great show, by the way), it smacked me right in the face.

A commercial.

For a presidential candidate.

About education (shocking, I know!).

Which ended with the phrase:

"and I approve this message."

I actually despise that phrase. Honestly, it's my least favorite part of all political races. I have feelings of strong dislike for it. The bottom line: If politicians didn't resort to name-calling, back-stabbing, and bashing the opponents, this phrase wouldn't be necessary.

We as voting citizens wouldn't have to question the authenticity of a politician's message if this practice had not become so commonplace in politics over the past whatever years.

It's actually quite sad.

And it puts people off. Myself included.

I was pretty proud of my level of engagement in the presidential primary races up until mid-February. That's when it really changed. That's when the bashing really began. And that's when I couldn't stand to listen anymore.

I wish politicians would find a better way to state their convictions than to resort to this useless rhetoric.

I think more people would stay engaged for the duration. Myself included.
